the Bread And the Dream
by Moshe Benarroch

Day after day like a forgotten sourdough
The longing keeps growing
creates a bread
and rejects a dream
that here in a new place
in another country
the dream will be bigger
and it will be able to conceal
the humidity of my hometown
The dream broke the bread dried
wars were followed by wars
and only the memory remained
like an elephant returning
to his ancestor's graves
screaming a bit near them
and following his own road
falling not falling
still, a different elephant.
