Accident Playmate

The two playful kittens thumbled down the slope, enveloped in each other forming a ball of black and grayish blue hair. Not noticing the river, which was just in front of them, they kept playing until they reached the high bank. Getting attentions about the water one of the kittens stopped playing, careful not to fall into the water, while the other one went on, now knowing of the danger. And so it came that one of the creatures fell headlong into the cold water, fighting to get up but deterred by the bank wall. Washed away by the stream to never be seen again.

Han Ho worked at one of the most important Japanese enterprises placed in USA, the Senaka company, which controlled most of the electronic market in the country. Order and discipline was the company's motto and the monitor surveillance cameras kept the president's promise that "nothing, and I mean nothing, will ever happen here without us knowing is". You did not cough, you did not sneeze, you did not even take a wizz without somebody seeing it on a black and white monitor somewhere in the deep hart of the building.
On the dole was an expression which did not exist here, you did not get fired ( no reason to ) and you did NOT quit. If you did not have a job you did not come here. This was not a social welfare office, this was the most distinguished enterprise in the city of New York. All workers where hired directly from the university and grew old with the company. If you waded waist-deep in bills you had no business here.
"Do you have a minute, Mr. Ho," a Mr. Andersen said as Han entered the room.
Two kids showed up in the locals as the two businessmen where speaking of matters concerning the company. Children were actually something unusual in this building, but no-one seemed to give them any attention. After all the cameras saw everything needed to be seen and the necessary measures would be taken.
The kids were playing some kind of game, and Han, perhaps unconscious of it himself but in the subconscious aware of that he was observing them. The game got closer and closer to the elevator until the children were playing right in front of it.
Not knowing how it had happened, only knowing that it had, the elevator doors opened showing its big, black gap, without any elevator in sight. One wrong move and the children would be fifty yards down the shaft. The wrong move occurred as one of the children slid and fell headlong into the empty space behind him. And so it came that the company president once more proved to be right — the surveillance cameras had filmed the occurrence even though they couldn't do anything about it.
